Social Indicators

The indicators listed below summarize how the State of South Carolina is performing with regard to the well being of its citizens, including living conditions, life-styles, quality of life, and protections available.  For each category, one or more indicators are listed and defined, and in brief, the significance or relevance of the indicator is included. Most data are comparable to other states and historical data are available. Select state rankings are also provided. Additionally, the data sources are indicated via hyperlink for each indicator, where possible. In other cases, sources are simply cited. Endnotes provide other referencing information and, in some cases, explanatory narrative.
