Government/Administration Indicators
Government/Administration indicators encompass those areas
of civil society that speak to the structural organization
of government at both the state and local levels and
measures of accountability, efficiency and effectiveness in
the conduct of public administration. The indicators listed
below summarize how South Carolina state and local
governments are organized to implement public policy and
deliver public services. Data are divided into three
separate categories—finance, human resources, and government
organization and representation. For each category, one or
more indicators are listed and defined, and in brief, the
significance or relevance of the indicator is included. All
data are comparable to other Selected state rankings are
also provided. Additionally, the data sources are
indicated via hyperlink for each indicator where possible.
In other cases, sources are simply referenced. Endnotes
provide other referencing information and, in some cases,
explanatory narrative
