The Supervisor Training Institute
The Supervisor Training Institute (STI) is designed for perspective
and new supervisors, or more experienced front line supervisors who
could benefit from formal, systematic supervisor training. This
program is currently being offered on an in-house, contractual
basis. The Institute consists of 50 hours of instruction delivered
in four two-day sessions that cover the following topics:
Session One
- The role of the supervisor
- The challenges and rewards of supervision
- Making the transition to a management role
- Supervisory styles: individual assessments
Session Two
- Basic communications skills
- Interviewing and selecting employees
- Coaching, counseling, rewarding, and disciplining
- Governmental ethics
Session Three
- Fundamentals of employee motivation
- Building and sustaining teams
- Delegating authority
- Evaluating employee performance
Session Four
- Managing time and stress
- Planning and goal setting
- Decision making and problem solving
- Making things happen: implementation issues
