Faculty of the Center provide service at the following levels:
- University of South Carolina: Center faculty sponsor
monthly or twice monthly luncheon seminars in the medical
humanities, open to all interested USC faculty. It is common to
have faculty from up to 10 departments present.
- University of South Carolina health sciences schools and
other schools, such as the School of Law: Faculty provide
expertise and consultation on issues related to ethics and
professionalism.
- Palmetto Health Richland (formerly Richland Memorial
Hospital): Faculty provide leadership in the Hospital Ethics
Committee and staff an Ethics Consultation Service.
- South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special
Needs: Center faculty provide expertise on policy formulation,
offer in-service education, and give in-depth consultations on
ethical issues pertaining to difficult cases.
- South Carolina Medical Association: Center faculty were
instrumental in the founding of the Ethics Committee for this
statewide organization. A faculty member serves as editor of the
Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association.
- National Service: Center faculty serve on numerous
committees and editorial boards. A faculty member serves as
secretary-treasurer of the American Osler Society, which is
dedicated to promoting humanism in medical practice.
